ODE TO NEWCASTLE
Monday, April 2, 2012 Here's a po-hem I wrote last week in readiness to celebrate my inaugural DENISE'S MONTHLY show (to be held in the upstairs room at the Brewery) underneath the Queens Wharf Tower, seen in my hand on all my merch...
ODE TO NEWCASTLE
Nobbys shines its beacon
The cathedral is our palace
I love this city, warts & all
Our tower is a phallus
Out there's no Sydney Harbour
We have no rock like Alice
But we have something they don't have
Our tower is a phallus
Europe is stunning, so worldly, so old
And everything's bigger in Dallas
But show me another place on this fine earth
That agreed to erect a large phallus
Monaco has gambling
Now I don't mean to sound callous
But London Bridge just pales, you see
Our tower is a phallus
Rio has nightlife, fine music
Please understand there's no malice
For though far abroad there are wonders galore
No-one else has a bloody big phallus
A thousand years hence, through the rubble
When gone are all traces of brick
Like a phoenix emerging from Newcastle's ashes
Will be, standing proud, our big phallus
Newcastle our hearts do lie here
Say it proud with me, raise up your chalice
We love this city, warts & all
Our tower is A PHALLUS!
